Monterey Park Community Healing Grant Making Process Guidelines

The Monterey Park Community Healing Fund, a fiscally sponsored project of the California Community Foundation (the Monterey Park Community Healing Fund)was created after and in response to the tragic events on January 21, 2023, that led to the deaths of 11 people, and which impacted the Monterey Park community at large. Donations have come in from supporters near and far with the intent of supporting programs, initiatives and projects designed to help the Monterey Park community heal and rebuild. We as the advisors to The Monterey Park Community Healing Fund fulfill our mission by making prudent grants to organizations or charitable programs focused in the areas of education, prevention, and community engagement to assist the Monterey Park community in that healing and rebuilding.

Timetable for Competitive Grants

The 2023 Competitive Grant Application deadline is July 31, 2023 for those community-serving organizations looking for competitive funding consideration. Completed grant applications should be submitted to The Monterey Park Community Healing Fund’s email at mpkhealingfund@gmail.com.

Grant Review Process

The Advisory Committee of The Monterey Park Community Healing Fund (the Advisory Committee) reviews the applications and provides recommendations for funding. The Advisory Committee may request to meet with applicants in person or by Zoom during the grant review process. Grant award decisions will be announced on or after August 31, 2023.

Important Information

  • Grants are awarded to 501(c)3 not-for-profit organizations and 170(c)(1) governmental agencies serving the Monterey Park community.

  • Grants will be awarded to organizations that positively impact Monterey Park within the focus areas identified below.

  • Grant awards cannot be used retroactively to pay costs for programs or services that have occurred in the past.

  • All final reports from previously awarded grants must be provided prior to the submission of a new grant application.

  • Grants will be made up to a maximum of $5,000.

What The Monterey Park Community Healing Fund Supports

The Monterey Park Community Healing Fund looks to fund organizations and projects that strengthen and improve Monterey Park and its residents in the following focus areas: education, prevention and community engagement efforts and projects in the areas of mental health, gun safety and awareness, violence prevention environment, increased community interaction and involvement.

Additional Information

Grants should enhance the quality of life in Monterey Park, with applications addressing a need within a focus area and demonstrating impact on the organization, project, community, or persons served.

Applications should include some of the following elements:

  • Address a documented need or concern of the focus area.

  • Recognize and build on a community’s or organization’s strengths and assets.

  • Build the capacity of community organizations and/or individuals to help themselves.

  • Foster cooperative approaches to community issues through collaborations based on shared visions and mutual responsibility.

  • Build infrastructure within the organization to meet its mission.

The Monterey Park Community Healing Fund will not award grants to/for: debt reduction, endowments, individuals, lobbying, political organizations and campaigns, or replace government funding sources.

Your Responsibilities (if awarded a grant)

The Monterey Park Community Healing Fund expects to be recognized in all related press releases and publicity. The Monterey Park Community Healing Fund requires all grantees to submit a final report no later than December 31, 2023.
